Women and Money On Thursday, April 10th from 12 p.m. - 1 p.m., Dr. Stephanie Yates, UAB Professor of Accounting and Finance, will discuss the differences between men and women when it comes to finances, and how women can take charge of their financial future despite those differences.

Red Mountain Park

Red Mountain Park Find out about Birmingham's newest park. On Thursday, April 3rd at 10 a.m. Jeff Newman, with Red Mountain Park, will use a PowerPoint presentation to discuss the development of Red Mountain Park, its unique features, and the mining history that took place in the boundaries of the park and along Red Mountain from 1862 until 1962.

March Family Movie Night

Saving and Investing

On Thursday, March 13 from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m., Andreas Rauterkus, Ph.D., Professor of Finance UAB will discuss the role of saving and investing products. He will also analyze savings products and how to match the appropriate savings and investments to reach specific financial goals. Free admission.

Through the Back Door: The Music That Bridged the Bayou

Dolores Hydock, a member of the Alabama Humanities Foundation's Road Scholars Speakers Bureau, will present "Through the Back Door: The Music That Bridged the Bayou" on Thursday, March 6, at 10 a.m. This program describes the history of Cajun music over the past 150 years. It also paints a portrait of Cajun and Creole music and musicians, and the role that music played in allowing non-Cajuns to slip "through the back door" into the world of the spirited people of southwest Louisiana. Hydock's presentation includes stories by Cajun and Creole musicians, and a discussion of zydeco music and how it developed in southwest Louisiana. Samples of the music are played throughout the presentation. Sponsored by the Friends of the Library.
