Who Speaks for Birmingham?

On February 5th at 10 a.m., Samuel Pugh, with the Birmingham Civil Rights
Institute, will show a 1961 documentary "Who Speaks for Birmingham?",
reporting on the racial divide between the black and white  communities of
Birmingham.  Residents testify to their conflicted feelings about how
racial integration will affect their lives, with very differing portraits
offered from both the black and white community.  He will then discuss
changes made in the years since that time.

January Family Movie Night

Please join us on Monday, January 26th at 5:30 p.m. The team
 of people who saved Winter's life reassemble in the wake of her
 surrogate mother's passing in order to find a companion for her
so she can remain at the Clearwater Marine Hospital. Free admission.

Shingles and Diabetes

On Thursday, January 15th at 10 a.m., Ms. Tammy Young, R.N.,
Nurse Educator, formerly with the Jefferson County Health
Department, will discuss the prevention, symptoms and
treatment of these two serious diseases.

What's New at the Zoo?

On Thursday, January 8th at 10 a.m., Dr. William Foster, Director of the
Birmingham Zoo, will present a PowerPoint program. Approximately
 950 animals of 230 species call the 122-acre Birmingham Zoo home,
 including sea lions, rhinos and endangered species from six continents.
 Come find out about the latest happenings at the Zoo.

December Family Movie Night

Please join us on Monday, December 1st, at 5:30 p.m. Retired balloon salesman Carl Fredericksen is ready for his last chance at high-flying excitement. Tying thousands of balloons to his house, Carl sets off to see the wilds of South America, not realizing a young Wilderness Explorer named Russell is on his front porch. Free admission.

Please join us on Thursday, November 6th at 10 a.m. for "Why Is Alabama a Superstar for Biodiversity?" presented by Dr. Scot Duncan, Professor of Biology at Birmingham-Southern College. Using a Powerpoint program he will explore the state's varied landscapes and introduce remarkable species. Learn why Alabama's life forms are so diverse and why it is important to protect them.
