What's New at the Zoo?

On Thursday, January 8th at 10 a.m., Dr. William Foster, Director of the
Birmingham Zoo, will present a PowerPoint program. Approximately
 950 animals of 230 species call the 122-acre Birmingham Zoo home,
 including sea lions, rhinos and endangered species from six continents.
 Come find out about the latest happenings at the Zoo.

December Family Movie Night

Please join us on Monday, December 1st, at 5:30 p.m. Retired balloon salesman Carl Fredericksen is ready for his last chance at high-flying excitement. Tying thousands of balloons to his house, Carl sets off to see the wilds of South America, not realizing a young Wilderness Explorer named Russell is on his front porch. Free admission.

Why Is Alabama a Superstar for Biodiversity?

Please join us on Thursday, November 6th at 10 a.m. for "Why Is Alabama a Superstar for Biodiversity?" presented by Dr. Scot Duncan, Professor of Biology at Birmingham-Southern College. Using a Powerpoint program he will explore the state's varied landscapes and introduce remarkable species. Learn why Alabama's life forms are so diverse and why it is important to protect them.

October Family Movie Night

Please join us on Monday, October 6th at 5:30 p.m. After his son is captured in the Great Barrier Reef and taken to Sydney, a timid clownfish sets out on a journey to bring him home. Free admission.

Radio Hero: The Story of Paul "Tall Paul" White

Bob Friedman, project director for the Birmingham Black Radio Museum, will use an imaginative mix of sounds, visuals and his own commentary to bring to life the story of the deejays and stations that contributed to the life and culture of The Magic City. Please join us on Thursday, October 2nd at 10 a.m. in the auditorium.

September Family Movie Night

Please join us on Monday, September 8th at 5:30 p.m. in the auditorium. In the Lego universe, the wizard Vitruvius attempts to protect a super-weapon called the "Kragle" from the evil Lord Business. He fails to do so, but prophesies that a person called "the Special" will find the Piece of Resistance capable of stopping the Kragle. Free admission.

German POW Camp World War II, Aliceville, Alabama

Please join us on Thursday, September 4th from 10 - 11 a.m. for a program on the German POW Camp during World War II in Aliceville, Alabama presented by John Gillum, Executive Director of the Aliceville POW Museum. Find out about a little known piece of American history as Mr. Gillum talks about the origins of POW camps in the U.S. during WWII, and the various groups comprising the prisoners. In particular, he will discuss the history of the Aliceville POW Camp and share camp stories.
